4th Edition of PACRI in South Africa

Prof. Sheeba Irshad attended the 4th PACRI International Annual Meeting as part of Team SAMBAI, joining researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and patient advocates from across Africa and beyond. Held under the theme “Bridging Cancer Science and Medicine in Africa: Driving Innovation and Equity for Transformative Impact,” the meeting showcased the growing momentum behind collaborative approaches to improving cancer outcomes across the continent. The opening sessions highlighted a shared vision for the future of cancer care in Africa, emphasising the need for innovation that is both scientifically rigorous and accessible to diverse patient populations. The conference brought together oncologists, pathologists, surgeons, cancer biologists, bioinformaticians, and public health experts to discuss the many challenges of cancer care, particularly focussing on overcoming barriers to participation and inclusion of underserved population in clinical trials as well as developing Africa-led solutions to ensure research is representative and equitable.

For Team SAMBAI, the meeting provided an important opportunity to engage with colleagues working at the forefront of cancer science and healthcare innovation and highlighted the power of collaboration in accelerating research, reducing inequalities, and improving cancer care for patients across Africa.
